Mods menu is an in-game tool powered by mod.io that allows you to easily browse and install player-created mods to customize your game. Feature is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
How do I install mods?
Simply launch the game, access Mods from the game's main menu, log in with your CD PROJEKT RED account, connect it to mod.io, and start browsing. If you find a mod you like, select the Subscribe button, restart the game, and you’re good to go! To make sure the mod is installed and enabled correctly, go to the Installed section and check that the mod appears on the list and its checkbox is selected.
Do I need an account to download/upload mods?
It’s required to log in with your CD PROJEKT RED account and connect it to mod.io to be able to install mods. To upload your own mods, go to the mod.io page.
How can I unlink my CDPR account from mod.io?
Sign in to mod.io using your CD PROJEKT RED account. Once signed in, you can manage your linked accounts here.
Will existing mods still work with the new patch?
Mods containing xml files, script files, or w3strings will not work upon the release of the update. However, in REDkit we include a way to update such mods so they work as normal.
Modding vs Cross Progression
Note that in order to maintain Cross Progression compatibility and be able to transfer your save to another platform, you need to have the same set of mods enabled on both platforms. If a mod is missing or incompatible on the target platform, your save may not load correctly. If you plan to use Cross Progression between PC and console, make sure that the mods you install on PC are also available on console.
Can I unlock Trophies and Achievements when playing with mods?
On consoles, Trophies and Achievements are disabled on modded save files. Modded saves are marked by a mod.io (cog) icon displayed next to the save.
Will my mod subscriptions carry over between platforms, e.g. from PC to PS5?
Subscriptions are synced across platforms via your CD PROJEKT RED account. If you have subscribed to some mods on one platform (e.g. PC), when you log in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account on another platform (e.g. PS5), you will have the exact same mods. However, the mods that aren’t supported on consoles will be ignored and won’t show up there.
To check if a mod is supported on consoles, check the details on the mods page and see if it has the “Available on consoles” tag.
How do I create and upload my mods?
You can create your mods to upload on PC via REDkit or using other tools, but script mods must be created via REDkit. Mods such as textures, bundles, and similar content can be created using other methods.
REDkit provides mod creators with the same powerful tools we use to develop The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which is why we recommend using it to create mods. Mods created via REDkit have the best chance at being approved for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Once your mod is ready, you can then upload and manage it via the mod.io website.
How to tell if a save is modded or not?
Any save created while mods were enabled is considered a modded save. Such saves are marked with a mod.io (cog) icon.
Can I access mods and/or a modded save if I’m not online?
You can access your modded save offline as long as the mods required to load that save are already installed on your platform.
It’s not possible to install new mods while you’re offline. This means that if you don’t have the required mods installed, you won’t be able to load your modded save until you reconnect and install them.
