Ray Tracing on Mac

Created 1 day ago  Updated 39 minutes ago

For optimal experience, Ray Tracing is not applied in the default “For this Mac” preset, regardless of your hardware’s capabilities. If you’d like to play with Ray Tracing on, you will have to enable it manually. To do this, go to Settings Graphics and in the Quick Preset section, and either switch the “For this Mac” preset to one of the Ray Tracing presets, or enable Ray Tracing individually in the Ray Tracing section.

Note that Ray Tracing is available on M3 and newer chips and requires at least 16 GB of RAM.

Here are our recommendations for running Ray Tracing on your Mac:

30 FPS Performance Target
Chip: Apple M3 Pro
RAM: 18 GB
Preset: Ray Tracing: Medium
Resolution: 1800x1125 or 1920x1080  (with MetalFX DRS enabled manually)

60 FPS Performance Target
Chip: Apple M3 Max
RAM: 36 GB
Preset: Ray Tracing: Medium
Resolution: 1800x1125 or 1920x1080 (with MetalFX DRS enabled manually)
